This page is dedicated to the memory of Kristen and James. In 2005, the two were brutally murdered at a family vacation house in Wisconsin. The murders were never solved. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Oswego County Sheriffs Office.

I think of you both every day--Jason

Fact vs. Fiction

The murders did not happen on February 11

The couple was discovered by two boys who noticed the door wide open and windows smashed.

The boys were simply riding bikes, not passing out religious pamphlets.

The boys saw an older model Ford truck with a man driving and two women passengers driving down the road but the truck did not stop and no one talked to the boys.

A friend was not murdered. This was added to the movie. Only the couple was murdered.

There is no evidence of masks being used.

There is no evidence that the people in the truck did anything. They are only wanted for questioning.

The car was not damaged or set on fire, but James car door was left open.

Two neighbors reported that a girl knocked on their door and asked if Amanda was home, not Tamara.

Is it illegal for film makers to state that a film is based on a true story when it isnt??? i dont know if i believe it is true or not when i watched the film i was scared stiff....i couldnt imagine if it were true, any of it??? so bad if it was..but i so wanna know if it is?? and what i dont get is..it happened a couple of years ago..not 20 years ago so why didnt we hear anything about it?? i have been searching every where to get answers on this story because i know that they cant make a movie & say it s true when its not so please help i know about dramatizing that would be a lil to much drama if it is not a true story

well for me, my opinion...If is true or not, Just to remind you that there is a possible scenario like this kind of story in a whole damn world out there, that these murderers can easily target those who are living as a couple without any dog or neighbours beside them, then you're in a big danger! So my advice to you, never spend a holiday or vacation in a place like summer cottages where nobody's around you..because you'll never know, you'll be the next victim...always think safety first!!!! and be prepared. PERIOD!! no argument if this true or not. Dayne

According to production notes,[5] the film was inspired by true events from director Bryan Bertino's childhood: a stranger came to his home asking for someone who was not there, and Bertino later found out that empty homes in the neighborhood had been broken into that night.[6] In interviews, Bertino stated he was "very impressed" with some of the theories circulating on the Internet about the "true events" the movie is allegedly based on, but said his main inspiration was from the true crime book Helter Skelter and also inspired by the Keddie Cabin Murders of 1981 that occured in Keddie, Ca in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

I'm from Russia.
The film looked. A strong film.
Shocked.
And do not tell the link on the Internet - where there is a photo of this Kristen Mckay and James Hoyt.

There is suppose to be a link called scrubed where family members can take off any information concerning anything to do with the murders or even idenity but i could not find this link yet so this throws me off some I've heard of weirder things happening!!! look what happend to that model!

I believe it is based on a true story. I read an article stating that the hoyt family payed to have all information about this case and all information on their son james and his girlfriend kristen mckay removed from the internet. These things to happen just look up unsoved murders and you get hundreds of cases like this all over the world dating back to the late 70's these things do happen there are alot of sick, twisted, sadistic people in this world and sometimes families of these victims don't want it broadcasted or posted all over the internet and if thats the case like it is in this one it wont be. I mean look at the keddie murders. The family also walked away from their rights to the movie because they thought it was morally wrong to do so but agreed for them continue to make the movie. Can you really blame the parents though? I mean it's horrible what happened to these people.

1801 Clark Road Pulaski, Oswego County NY. Google earth has it on satelite. House looks exactly the same with the large property and the barn. All the trees..you can see it all playing out.The satelite image was from 2009, so the house has not been destroyed or flattened as others have said. I also found a death record for both names in Oswego County. It's real, maybe a little exaggerated..but still real. God rest their souls and may the asswholes that did it rot in hell.

could you give more information about this and how did you learn these facts? And i think they didnt have to show all these facts into a horror movie. And does police have any record about the murders?

I know alot about the kristen mckay and james hoyt murders. The movie is based on true events. Alot of the ending involves the James Hoyt and Kristen Mckay murder. The police believe they were tortured because the property had several footprints all over the ground. James hoyt's car was never destroyed, but his car door was left open. No one knows what happened in that house but the murders and kristen mckay and james hoyt. They were stabbed to death, just the couple, not the friend. This case is still unsolved, and the old hoyt residence has been demolished flattened and is now an empty space in Arkansas, and part of a new park. The body's of kristen Mckay and James Hoyt were found by two young boys ridding their bikes. They walked into the house after seeing the windows smashed and the door wide open. Before the boys interned the house they saw an old ford truck leaving, a man was driving with two female passengers. No one in the truck spoke to the boys. The people in the truck are just wanted for questioning, but I believe the reason no one has tried to track them is because the police believe they are the killers, and I believe the people who committed this murder, know their wanted. I believe that Kristen and James weren't the first victims of these sick people and their definitely going to murder again. I believe they are very smart, and will probably wait a long time before they murder someone again. "the Strangers" is based on the murders of kristen mckay and james hoyt, but only a small part of it is. The other events the movie "The Strangers" are based on other stories besides the mckay and hoyt murders, The killers, a principle male assailant and female accomplices, is based upon Charles Manson and the Manson killings. The 911 call that you hear in the beginning is based on the murders in Cabin 28.
In the Cabin 28 murders, the daughter of a woman walks into a cabin where her mother, brother, and brother's female friend were staying only to find them stabbed and hammered to death. She calls 911 frantically repeating "there's blood everywhere," which there was although no one heard anything all night.

Most of these comments are crap. Annessa just copy and pasted from other sites. It is illegal to say its a true story if it is not but not illegal if you say based on events. This happened. However nobody can just look up a death record. if it has been "scrubbed" as familys with money can do then you will only find film info not real life info.

Anonymous said...

the murder case it real. just over exaggereated. all those who would like to say that its fake, well why dont you try saying that to the parents of kristen and james. they would beg to differ.

Okay soo... yes I believe that it is a true story! Manson had sent a male and two female "family" members to an aquaintances house they kept him their for 2 days Manson then showed up with a sword and chopped the mans ear off then the male "family" member stabbed the man to death and then proceeded to write "political piggy" on the wall (probably in the mans blood) which comes into play with all the writting on the wall in "the strangers" their was also they crazy Manson murders of the Tates and the LaBiancas(seperate families and houses) both of which also were trapped in their homes and tortured and stabbed to death! The movie said "BASED on True EVENTS" The director/writter is a genius in my oppinion! Taking diffrent pieces of diffrent TRUE events and putting them all In one movie! The only movie I know of that is "A TRUE STORY" (not based on but IS) is "We Are Marshall" it is NOT illegal to say "based on true events" if even a second of it is based on a true event like the movie "paranormal activity" that was "based on true events" like what the phone rang? The hubby filmed his wife? They had ghosts? The whole movie doesn't have to be true if they strictly say "Based on TRUE EVENTS" and also in my oppinion YES crazy pyschotic sh*t happens to family members and friends in this f*cked up world IF IT IS UNSOLVED MAKE A FREAKING MOVIE DEAL WRITE A BOOK THAT GETS YOU ONE STEP CLOSER TO HAVING RANDOM PPL ALL ACROSS THE WORLD SAY OH MY GOD THAT GIRL KNOCKED ON MY DOOR AND THEIR WAS A PICKUP TRUCK PARKED ON THE STREET!!! DO YOU WANT YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO DIE IN VAIN WITH NO EXTRA HOPE OR HELP OF THE TRUTH COMMING OUT AND THE KILLERS BROUGHT TO JUSTICE??

Savey said...

Oswego County is in New york, where the family is supposedly from. However, the vacation house was somewhere else by what I have found. It's not easy to come across anything about this case, most of it cant be linked by search engines because of a scrub. Either way, if something states "based on true events" it means it is, no matter how loosely based it may be they cannot simply say "hey, this is based on something real" and then have it be entirely false, it's the same principle as false advertising.
Show some respect. Just because you do not understand something does not make it untrue, people died, others mourn that loss, be mindful of how painful that is.

Anonymous said...

HEY I have nothing but respect for people! Exspecially people who have gone through and lived their own personal Hell! But their are just as many morbidly twisted people in this world as "normal" people! And I never once said that it was an untrue (false advertising) story!!!! The bottom line is, is that nobody is going to find out the true story of which it was based on (exspecially if it was scrubbed) unless they are the family! Their have been soo many sick twisted murders that this story could have been based on and try to find that with the Billions of murders and Millions of serial killers, and billion random "normal or accidental" killers (Manson, the keddie murders, the zodiac, Gacey, Dahmer, Rameriez, Belle Gunness, Ed Gein, The Dahlia murder, the boston stranglers, jack the ripper,Ted Bundy, David Berkowitz,Gary Ridgway,Albert Fish,Dr.Holmes, and ect.)(all those of which are well known serial killers well the ones who have been caught or never found) In the usa alone in 2009 there was an estimated 15,241 murders(in 1960 there were an estimated 9,110 murders, soo the rate in 49 yrs has gone up an extra 6,131 murders a Year!), 806,843 assaults, 1,318,398 violent crimes, and 89,000 rapes! And that's all in ONE YEAR 365 days can get you 15,241 murders! I don't disrespect I feel for the victims and victims families! But the worlds going to keep getting worse if people don't start standing up and doing things about it!!

Anonymous said...

I believe the two existed and were murdered. The Cabin 28 murders in Keddie, CA are VERY true. My ex husband lived in a nearby town (Taylorsvilee, CA) when the murders occured. Very tragic. The cabin is still there although it is boarded up and you will get chased off the property if you try and snoop. I have seen the cabin myself....hard to believe no one heard a thing; and the daughter who found everyone was right next door when it happened. It is also unsolved although if you talk to some locals, they will tell you who they think did it!

I belive that the movie STRANGER is real and true R.I.P Kristen and James. And I belive that for the murders they will do it again ones everything calms down. And guest what people we could be next..:(

Hi! I'm from France, so I never heard about that story before seeing the movie. I bet it's true and I bet those murders inspired the movie and that's an awful story. But, as I watch a lot of scary movies, I have seen one called "Ils" (it's a french movie translated by "them") and the story is quite alike and it's based on true events too (but took place in Bucarest). You can watch it if you want to compare it's pretty scary especially when, at the end, you discover the murders; it's speechless! But I'm only talking about the movies, I'm not doubting about the facts, and i'm so sorry for the families.

this is a crock first off Oswego County Sheriffs Office is in NY and second its a movie people no more no less The Strangers is a movie!!!!

Anonymous said...

For everyone saying that its illegal to say true story based on true events blah blah look at paranormal activity.. FAKE! yet its supposed to be based on a true story. BUT think of it this way.. someone had to have thought up this story.. so it's very possible they took this story from some sort of true events.

Anonymous said...

Just an FYI for all since everyone is saying "based on a true story" the movie actually says "inspired by a true story" and with how Hollywood works "based" and "inspired" are two different things. "Based" is stating it is coming straight from a true event. "Inspired" is stating that one or more true events have been pieced together and played with to fit how we want it to be. That's the difference and that's why "The Strangers" was inspired by three different events as stated in previous comments. I don't deny that Kristen and James may have been killed but I doubt it was exactly as portrayed in the movie.

well this movie is scary as hell & its a 5 starrs to me

it does say INSPIRED meaning its not all true. the movie has parts in it from other murders and something the director experienced as a child.

I don't know about Kristen McKay and James Hoyt but I do know about the Keddie Murders. So just to clear a few things up! The cabin 28 / Keddie murders took place on April 11th 1981. Yes the oldest daughter had spent the night at the next door neighbors and did find the bodies the next morning, however she is not the person who called 911. The youngest girls remains were found in the Feather Falls area near Oroville, Ca. These murders remain unsolved although there is alot of speculation about who committed them.

ellmoe2010 said...

The movie does say "inspired by true events" and not "based on a true story". These two statements would have different meanings to me. I believe parts of it are true.
There are "sick" and "demented" people in the world that will do this sort of thing.

All u have to do is read the Wikipedia article about the movie to know it was based off the writer's childhood. Where there were a few break ins. The characters in the movie are totally fictitious. Period.

of course its not illegal to put a film is based on a true story when it isnt - what kind of nonsense is that? texas chainsaw massacre says its based on a true story & tobe hooper has said in interviews that its not - he just thought it would make a better film. Fargo, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Blair Witch Project...all of these had the disclaimer "based on a true story" & none of them were. Geesh people, have some sense & stop being so gullible!

It's NOT TRUE?!?!?!?!?!? OMG I can't believe you people are saying this because I knew James through a mutual friend and yes his parents did pay for a "scrub" because if they didn't then you people would be knocking down their doors!!!
And to set the record straight, YES, they did have masks as they were spotted by a passing car at exactly 5:11 am that morning ( the guy with the burlap sack) and James had proposed that night and 3 other houses within 27 miles had a girl knock in their door and ask for Amanda!!!
However, there wasn't any writing on anything

Whether it's illegal or not for a movie to state, "based on actual events", or anything similar, I don't believe the company releasing the film would claim the movie is based on something if it isn't, because they could be sued for false advertising.

The movie clearly states its inspired by true events. It does not say its based on a true story. Meaning the story has true facts but everything else is made up because the entire crime is not known.

You guys are either all dumb-asses, or really really convincing trolls.

Anonymous said...

OK Wikipedia is also full of shit and everybody knows it. Just relax. The company didn't release a fake movie. If somebody knew through a mutual friend who hoyt was. So be it and.you don't have to believe them but don't talk shit. This isn't a damn joke, it happens all the time... you just have to know your surroundings and have a plan. The movie doesn't have to be real for it to be in the world. Anybody could be next and it wont have to be the same 3 people. Girls keep your company and don't stay alone in a house in the middle of effing nowhere. Everybody just be safe. Btw I'm just a junior in high-school but I know enough to know you shouldn't be withought proper protection. And if you're going to be a hero. Do it smart. You don't do anybody any good if you're dead. Everybody in here who believes it just beware. Everybody who doesn't believe it could happen. I hope and pray you figure it out before something happens to you or your loved ones because nobody should have to experience that.

Blah blah blah to the blah blah and I agree that blah blah blah is blah!! So blah blah to blah blah and blah! Peace out my puppets!!! Lol

why are there so many people talking about this movie being based on a true story? I'm watching it right now and it says it's based on true EVENTS. Big difference. All it means is that several of the scenes are from different true stories all wrapped into one. The only thing that might based on this particular couple is how they were found. None the less, the movie was suspenseful, scary and very sad. It's unfortunate that things like this do happen.

The "embarrass yourself" award goes to the anonymous writer who said everyone on here is a dumbass, and then referenced WIKIPEDIA, of all places as his/her "credible" source of factual information. Go to college, please. Wikipedia is not credible, its not even a suitable source in research papers due to its findings containing tons of incorrect information.

As for this murder and whether or not two people named Kristen McKay and James Hoyt were actually murdered in this way, I have yet to find an ACTUAL CREDIBLE source (not blogs or wikipedia pages) that show an ounce of evidence that these people existed. This could be due to the family having their info removed from the internet (which I am yet to find proof that a process like that is even possible). So as of now, and until I find any CREDIBLE sources of information, I will say this was probably inspired by the true events the director admitted to, his childhood incident and the manson/Keddie murders.

And its rude to call people dumbasses when you don't know what you are talking about either. MEANIE!

As other people have stated, the movie is INSPIRED by true events and not BASED on true events. People directly related to this movie have already stated that the events that took place in the movie were not real but that it was based on other events that the director experienced as a child along with some other events. If kristen and james really existed, don't you think that they would have been talked about in the special features? I mean hell, even the texas chainsaw massacre has so called police footage. The movie came out before any "scrubbing" would have taken place and if that info would have been removed before the movie came out, their names wouldn't have been able to be used. That in it self is simple common sense. The movie says that the city and county are in wisconsin and in reality they are not. That is another clue that not everything in this movie is on the up and up. Scary movie though.

Real or not this type of stuff can happen ,best not to open ur door for strangers,in my opinion movies like this are two fold entertaining but cautionary

Hi, I was a close friend of Kristen. I am writing because I am very sad to read that lot of people doubt the story is true. Kristen was a lovely girl and I am still missing her every day. WHat happened to her is a tragedy and it makes me sad to see that people is making fun of it. The movie doesn't tell the whole truth, in fact Kristen was actually pregnant: the loss was extremely deep. I didn't know James personally, but Kristen always told me about him..they were such a great couple. I hope you people will stop asking more details to confirm or deny the truthfulness of the story. My friend Kristen existed, she was brutally murdered and she deserves your respect. May they rest in peace.

The filmmakers said it was "inspired" by a true story. That does not mean they are telling people "this is how it really happened." They did the same thing with the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" which was inspired by true events. In that movie the event that inspired it was the desecration of the graves at a local cemetery with animal bones and such.

Anonymous said...

Idk if this couple existed or not & if they did my heart goes out to them. But of course the movie is not entirely true. I mean come on, its Hollywood. But I certainly believe that its very possible the couple was real ppl that died tragically. But reguardless of whether its true or not what right do u rude ppl have calling the others who commented ugly names & telling them their idiots? Did ur

mother not teach u respect? What is wrong with ppl? Its just as easy to be nice as it is to be mean. One day we will all be judged & its gna matter how we treated others. God bless!

Unknown said...

Then can make a movie and say its true when its not... example: Texas chainsaw massacre

Anonymous said...

this movie (as well as Texas Chainsaw) is INSPIRED by terrier events. It's not a documentary in which everything in the movie really happened. When a film " inspired" by true events any amount, little or great, of the film may be true. The only true party couple be that a couple was murdered while everything else is b.s. You just have to research the facts.

Anonymous said...

Thats not true either.
Its about a guy who would murder people while wearing womans makeup and there breasts and face.
The guy wanted to be a woman basically.
And he did not use a chainsaw and it wasnt In texas either.
And he only killed a couple of people.

Anonymous said...

Wow... Y'know, for those of you claiming to be such good "friends" of Kristen McKay and James Hoyt, the director has gone on record and stated that they are ficitious characters. But nice touch with the "she was pregnant" bit to make it more dramatic. You guys always go around fishing for sympathy online by lying through your teeth?

Texas chainsaw massacre did happen here somewhere in texs. There are samiliar newspaper stories that came out.yes based on facts it did happen.google it.

For you people that don't believe this movie , open your mind .look at all the things that are happening now in this world...just like movies that were based on true events. ..like the chernoybil diaries, the hills have eye's, texas chainsaw massacre. .you know the government hides the truth and you know that police and all their investigations are screwed because they didn't have the technology that they do now...hell open up the case and find them bastards...they deserve the same treatment

There is a difference in the phraseology. "Based on a true story" usually sticks pretty close to the known facts. "inspired by a true story/events" usually indicates there was some incident but is loosely based on it and have taken a lot of dramatic license to create a more compelling story.

Anonymous said...

I think these differences were done on purpose. If it's still an open investigation, you don't want to make it so close to what the actual known facts are of the case that it either makes the killer excited and wanting to do it again or that it can damage any case that could be made if they find the killer. It's like a magazine that states "some of the names or places have been changed to protect the privacy of others."

I agree with there being no need to be such a ride little "bxtch." If you don't believe in it and think you're already wasting time on talking about it to "stupid" people on the Internet then why are you putting any effort into it? Wouldn't that be pretty stupid on your part? I mean, it can't be to tell the world how you feel cuz everyone who talks shit on here posts as "anonymous." Also agree on the Wikipedia as I am a grad student and would have my paper torn up if I used that as a citation. ANYONE can edit Wikipedia people, ANYONE. One point I do want to make though and you can trust me, or not (whatever cuz it seems to be the trend on here) but you can make someone disappear on the Internet. It's easy. When I was in law enforcement, I paid this company to do it. $100/year. It was great. Couldn't find me anywhere. Not even public records, people searches etc. I'm sure there's a way the family did it and why wouldn't they? Who cares about the movie anyway? It says right in the first paragraph this page is dedicated to the memory of Kristen and James, not dedicated to desecrating their memory, no matter how they died. She also says she thinks of them every day. Now what would someone have to gain out of this claim to know them and know a bit about it, besides apparently hateful comments? I would do the same things to raise awareness and not let their case get cold if these were my friends. I'd think anyone would but I'd also think any human being would be kind to a woman in mourning. Guess not. What did we learn in grade school? Well, some of us? If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all! Wouldn't it be a "waste" of your time?

Ok, been reading lots of these. I do hold a Paralegal degree for true, sort of true, way off base for allegedly fact based movies. Easiest way to describe is this; unless it's listed as a Documentary Film, it's going to have a lot of made up parts. Based on a true story is vague terminology. It basically let's you write about any alleged true story and as long as pieces are sprinkled around and the real story victims signed their okay on the storyline, Hollywood can take their liberties with it. Not sighting another horrible murder for example, so I'll go the other way. The movie The Sound of Music with the VanTrapp Family is another true story. Take away Hollywood's version and Julie Andrews what's reality? She and Capt. VanTrapp (C.Plummer) hated each other in real life. Maria was a very unsightly woman who couldn't sing a note. She married FOR the children only. The captain served his time with Hitler's fleet and returned to their home destroyed in Austria. Not the Hollywood musical we've all known and loved.

I read about the event, and I found out some things. I have seen the movie, and yes, it is over rated. The event actually happened very close to me. It happened at 1801 Clark road, Lapeer, MI 48446. The location is secluded, only with some neighbors at the crossroads. There is a forest in the back, included with a barn. There is also a costume store nearby, that sells Betty Boop & burlap sack masks.

I've always felt sorry for Ed Gein. His Mother really screwed him up. I think he only killed 2 people. He liked to dig up graves and take the bodies for company. He did wear their skin and make furniture and ate out of a skull bowl he made. Poor ol Ed whacked out as they come. He liked to masturbate wearing skin. He was taught that woman were dirty by his own Mother. He was told over and over that a little boys best friend was his Mother.

First of all you can't scrub data off the internet in America no matter how much money you have otherwise these movie stars would have a lot of garbage removed. Next if am movie director or writer discusses what inspired him/her to create a movie then THAT IS HOW THE MOVIE CAME TO BE! If you don't believe the people who made the movie then you are in your own little world and will just make up whatever helps you to get by in life...good luck with that.

I don't know if this story is true or not. I do know that you should be prepared for something like this to happen cause it happened to me. My roommate in college and I were living in an apartment together in the 80s. One day a friend of hers called us and said that she had been in a minor wreck and asked us if she could come by and clean up. We thought it was strange that she wouldn't go to the hospital buy we told her that it was ok and to come on over. Little did we know that she had been kidnapped at the local mall and was being held by two men at a hotel room. They were pistol whipping her and demanding that she find someone to call so that they could rob them. So when she rang our doorbell, we opened the door to her with a bloody head and two guys behind her with weapons. She was crying hysterically but managed to tell us how sorry she was for calling our number. But we were the only ones that were home. They burst through the door screaming "Don't look at us." Our hands and feet were tied and our eyes were covered with duct tape. They began to tear the apartment apart. It was the scariest thing that had ever happened to me. I knew that I was going to die that day and thought how stupid we were to not think twice about how weird her call was and to check the peephole before opening the door. But after staying for hours with our radio on blast so that no one would hear us yell tbey finally left. I have become extremely cautious since that day and when I watch movies like this one it brings it all back again. My daughter says I shouldn't watch scary movies but I have always been into them and the thrill. Although I yell to the characters about stupid things they do in the movie. She should have called 911 right off the bat and he should have known where the gun was in a house so deserted. He shouldn't have left her alone in the house either. They should have stayed in the closet together and picked them off with the gun as they came at them. I don't think any of the intruders had a gun. I made it out alive though somehow. Just lucky I guess or maybe all of the praying that I was doing. They were eventualy caught at another house. We testified against them and they went away for a long time.

It seems that James Hoyt and Kristen McKay existed but their records have been deleted away from the internet. The Hoyt family did not want publicity into the murders so they paid for a service called a scrub. The scrub scubbed away and cleaned up the internet references to James Hoyt and the Hoyt murders. Kristen McKay’s name and references were also removed. The Hoyt family was approached for their rights to the story but they refused to sell out and went the other way.

The Hoyt family’s vacation home at 1801 Clark Road was demolished and totally flattened. The site is bare and is made into an empty space and part of a park.

There is a Clark Road in Clarksville, Arkansas. But …

An internet search turned up many roads in USA with that address. There are more than 10 maps.

All traces of the Hoyt murders were removed. It was as if the murders on Feb. 11, 2005 never happened.

The present search results on James Hoyt and Kristen McKay referred to the new data on the movie, The Strangers. There is no data on the deceased victims.

The movie was inspired by some incidents but it did not depict real murders. “The Strangers” was linked to the Manson murders, the Keddie Murders, the Hoyt family murders but the scriptwriter did not use an actual single story to write “The Strangers

Rubbish! The director himself has clearly stated the film was inspired by events in his childhood and the book about the Manson murders (hence why he can state inspired by real events) but also states at the end of the movie the characters are fictional

Unknown said...

This film is inspired by true events not a true story because as the director has said many times its inspired by something that happened in his neighbourhood as a child and the book helter skelter (aka the Manson murders) it also tells you at the end of the movie the characters are fictional! Anybody who believes these people were real are absurd. Their families apparently went all out to remove any trace of them from the Internet (so upset were they) but didn't sue when a big budget movie came out using the kids actual names πŸ˜‚ First of all you have to get the families expressed consent to make a movie based on real people! Honestly some folk have no brain cells

Anonymous said...

It is a story but Hollywood just added alot of crap as usual so it looks faker then hell lol why doesn't anyone say why it happened?

This family, allegedly, wants justice/information about this crime, but no one can do anything because James Hoyt and Kristen McKay have been taken off the face of the earth! Unless they have their own investigators, forensic scientist, and--wait for it--let the public help, justice will never come for this family. This family hid the truth instead of letting anyone help.

You can hope and pray all you want, but unless people can actually help...we will never know why they died in the first place. There's NOTHING TO GO ON.

Point blank, when a movie is based on a true story,it does reflect actual details on record of a specific crime that truly happened, provided by the legal system, courts, witnesses, victims, survivors...etc. etc.etc...! When a movie is inspired by true events, it's fictional, it simply means any given specific crime, or a hundred different crimes that have occurred in real life have inspired the idea, creativity and/or story line to the producers etc...but the characters, times, places etc. is fictional! The sad truth is, whether it's based upon or inspired by,it all comes from actual events, crimes and shows the depravity, evil, disgusting and horrifying things that people have done and are capable of doing! Just simply do actual research and you'll find that even TV Series are based and inspired by actual events also...No need to argue with the simple fact that unfortunately the world is full of evil, horrifying possibilities that can occur to anyone at any given time or place....
